The Gourd Process is started with seeds planted in the first part of March in our greenhouse. Once started, they are transferred to the garden along fencing and trellis. Hand pollination occurs when male and female flowers appear. Gourds grow on the vines thru out the summer months. We harvest the gourds towards the end of fall and place them in the green house for drying. The drying process may take as long as six months. Once dried, Mike soaks the gourds in water to soften, then removes the mold using wire brushes. The gourd is then sanded and depending on the design, cut and seeds removed. Available gourds are shown below; however, custom orders/designs are welcomed.
